Niamh Philp | Financial Planner

I began working for Fortitude in January 2018.

I started off as a Paraplanner when I first joined Fortitude and supported the Financial Planners in researching, attending meetings and writing reports. From January 2024, I have become a Financial Planner too.

What gives you the greatest kick out of your job?

Seeing the effect planning has on people’s lives is very rewarding. There seems to be a freedom in those who embrace the ‘Fortitude way’ which I haven’t experienced with other companies.

How long have you been in the profession, and what positive changes have you seen in that time?

I have been in the profession for 18 years in a variety of roles and have seen many periods of uncertainty during that time. But I’m comforted in knowing that our profession is striving to give better outcomes for our clients through more qualified and competent people in all aspects from support roles to planners.

What are your favourite places, activities & people?

I love reading and have finally been converted to a tablet reader rather than storing up lots of books! I’m also a huge sports fan; having three older brothers meant either we went to lots of sporting events or watched them on TV. My favourite people are my husband and our two daughters.

Volunteering

I spent most of my teenage years playing, coaching and refereeing volleyball. I was fortunate to be involved with the Special Olympics in 2003 and got to umpire the Women’s Gold Medal match. Seeing the enjoyment and team spirit of these athletes was truly humbling.

Who do you admire most?

I admire those that follow their dreams and inspire others to follow theirs.

What’s on your bucket list?

I’d love to see more of the world so lots of travel on my bucket list.
